The Garden Club of Concord celebrates the holidays with service to our town in several ways: offering a seasonal craft workshop at the Council on Aging, decorating one of the Family Trees at the Concord Museum’s celebration of Children’s Literature, and creating a multitude of cheerful arrangements for Meals on Wheels in a popular club event we call Cans for Caring.
Perhaps our most visible contribution is the many holiday wreaths we create and deliver to the town offices, police and fire departments, and public libraries as a gesture of gratitude. Each year has a different theme but recently, a miniature Minuteman and Concord Grapes have always appeared in the design.
This year our creative design team, Kate Wharton, Ellen Matheson, and Pat Lescalleet Lashley (chair), decided on sprays of flowers made from pinecones accented with berries and ornaments. Volunteers wire and attach the decorations to natural spruce wreaths and will deliver them in time for the Concord Tree Lighting on Dec. 4 Our volunteers are Leslie Cheney, Jennifer Stone, Jen Lannan, Mary Rose Sykes, Nicole Kelly, Wendy McNally, and Cathy Jenkins. Look for these festive wreaths around town in the coming days.
Happy Holidays.
