Dr. Allen Cail passed away peacefully on January 22 at the age of 84 in McLean, Virginia, surrounded by his loving wife and family. Formerly a longtime resident of Concord, “Allen”, “Dad,” or “Poppop”, as the grandchildren fondly called him, was born on Nov. 16, 1938. He was the son of the late Dr. Harold F. Cail and Marion B. Cail of Sudbury, Massachusetts.
Throughout his life, Allen was known to be an amazing husband, father, surgeon, and yachtsman. He leaves behind the devoted Maryalice “Mimi” (Sullivan) Cail, his beloved wife, soul mate, and best friend of 63 years.
Allen was an accomplished oral surgeon, with over 40 years in practice. After graduating from St. Sebastian’s School in 1956, he attended Boston College, graduating in 1960. He successfully completed his medical and dental studies at Tufts Dental School in 1964.
To all who knew him, Allen was a kind, gentle man of immense character. His patients loved him for his compassion and unparalleled skills as an oral surgeon. He was a sports fanatic who loved watching his sons play hockey and his daughter, Caitlin, and wife, Mimi at their many equestrian events. One of his biggest passions was spending time with his loved ones and friends on his boat. In his later years, he took to living on the boat in West Palm Beach and Hilton Head Island. He was also an avid golfer and a member of Concord Country Club.
In addition to his wife Mimi, Allen is survived by his son, Richard P. “Rip” Cail, his wife Beth, their children Emelia and Julia of Littleton, his daughter, Caitlin Levanson, her husband David, their children Maxwell, Lily and Jake of McLean, Virginia, and John W. Cail, son of Allen’s predeceased son, Allen Robert Cail, Jr. of Minneapolis. He was the brother of the late Thomas W. Cail and his late wife AnnMarie of Sarasota, Florida, Harold F. Cail and his wife Sheila of Rye, NH, and the late John A. Cail of Sudbury. Allen also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
