More than 60 Concord trees fell victim to Friday’s powerful storm, downing power lines, blocking roads and smashing cars, town authorities reported.
Among the havoc wreaked by the heavy winds and rain, according to the Concord Municipal Light Plant:
- On West Street, a large fallen tree damaged a car, a light pole and wires;
- On Barnes Hill Road, a tree tore out power to a house and dragged a utility pole into the street; and
- Monument Street saw trees blocking the road, entangling wires and damaging poles.
Thousands across Massachusetts, many in Middlesex and Essex Counties, remained without power into Saturday in the wake of the ferocious weather.
In Concord, by early Saturday morning, there remained just “86 customers without power and 44 customers without broadband,” the town reported online. “Of the 44, 33 are likely due to them having no power and 11 are likely due to damage to the fiber.”
Following the storm, Concord called in mutual aid to restore power and two emergency fiber splicing crews to restore broadband service, while “private tree removal crews have been working non-stop once the winds died down.”
The town’s police, fire, and public works departments joined CMLP in the storm response.
CMLP warns that all downed power lines should be considered live. A downed line could energize the ground up to 35 feet away. Never touch, walk or drive over a line.
