Dr. Frederick G. Lea, age 84, formerly a long-time resident of Concord, passed away in his new home in Maynard on Thursday, October 26, 2023. He was the husband of Susan Carey (Devine) Lea.
Dr. Frederick George Lea was born in Pembroke, NH, on November 17, 1938, the son of the late Frederick R. Lea and Marian (Abbie) Lea. He lived and attended Concord, NH schools and later enlisted in the United States Air Force. He proudly served his country during the Vietnam Era as a Lt. Colonel and Flight Surgeon. Upon his return home, he attended Ohio State University Veterinary College before he eventually decided to enter medicine and became an OB/GYN physician, graduating from the University of Vermont and later Yale University. He began a long and distinguished career over the decades at Emerson Hospital, delivering over 16,000 babies. Many who knew him admired his strong work ethic and care in the most delicate times. He continued to work at 84 until he retired in January 2023.
Dr. Lea was a loving husband, father, and grandfather; he cherished the time with his family, especially camping and vacations specifically his favorite place, Disney. He also enjoyed spending time in his gardens, tending to the plants, and cooking amazing meals for his friends and family.
Along with his loving wife, Sue, he is survived by his children, the late Scott Lea and his wife Sharon Lea, Sharon Almeida and the late Tony Almeida, Susie Bussiere, Stephanie Anderson and her husband, Ryan Anderson, Jillian Lea, Derick Lea and Adam Lea. Also, his grandchildren Kayla Rose and husband Nick Rose, Joseph Almeida and his wife Abygail Almeida, Taylor Bussiere and her twin the late Nicholas Bussiere, Hannah Almeida and her fiancé James Beauregard, Ben Almeida and his wife Katelyn Almeida and Alexa Anderson.
He is also survived by three great-grandchildren, Zailleigh Rose, Edson Rose, and Eliana Almeida.
Family and friends will gather to honor and remember Dr. Lea for calling hours on Sunday, November 5, 2023, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at the Concord Funeral Home, 74 Belknap Street, Concord, MA. His funeral service will follow at 4:00 p.m. Burial will be private.
