John Franklin Hurstak, formerly of Concord, Littleton and St. Petersburg, FL, died peacefully while surrounded by family at home in Medford on Sunday, December 10, 2023. He was 76.
Born on April 27, 1947, John was the son of the late Robert and Elizabeth (Chase) Hurstak. Known as Johnny in his younger years, he loved growing up in Concord. He graduated from Concord-Carlisle High School where he excelled in athletics as Co-Captain of the Football Team and a member of the 1964 Champion Basketball team. Subsequently, he was inducted into the CCHS Athletic Hall of Fame. Prior to retirement, John held a long career as a Controller for the Ball-Foster Glass Container Company.
Always striving to stay active, John was an avid golfer and fisherman. He enjoyed bowling, playing horseshoes and cards, and lending his talents as a skilled handyman to relatives and friends on various projects. Until the day he passed, he was a die-hard Boston Celtics fan.
He was the dedicated father of Kelly Hurstak and her husband Hector and Jack Hurstak and his wife Kara, all of Medford. He was the proud Grampy to Mariah Fitzgerald and her husband Logan, Charlotte Balogh, Chandler Garcia, Montana Hurstak and Veronica Hurstak, and the great-grandfather of Josie Fitzgerald. John also leaves behind four brothers, Bob Hurstak and his wife Emily Jane, Dick Hurstak and his wife Kathy, Danny Hurstak and his wife Roberta and Peter Hurstak and his wife Cathy, along with many nieces, nephews and a beloved cousin, Maureen Ahern.
John’s smile was contagious and lit up any room. We all wish we had more time with him. He will be deeply missed.
