Concord Police log highlights: September 18-24, 2024

Wednesday, September 18

11:34 a.m. A Barretts Mill Road resident said they found an “unknown bone” on neighboring conservation land. Police determined the bone belonged to an animal.

12:37 p.m. A woman said a man driving a “dilapidated van” with Arizona plates followed her into a Sudbury Road store and verbally harassed her but gave police no specifics. Police found the van, spoke with the driver and store staff, and determined no crime had occurred.

2:35 A motorist called 911 for a well-being check for a woman they saw walking east on Route 2 between Old Road to Nine Acre Corner and Walden Street. Police noted a nearby disabled vehicle. An officer caught up to the woman at the Exxon station and she told police she was walking to Walden Woods farmstand. The officer advised her not to walk in the road on her way back.

4:36: A Highland Street resident called to report scammers were trying to blackmail him into sending them Bitcoin and threatening to release his personal information if he didn’t. The resident told police he received an email containing a PDF file with his name, which he opened. The file included instructions for where to send the payment. Police recorded the incident.

4:49 p.m. A Paul Revere Road resident found a possibly lost black cat with matted fur and a gray flea collar in their yard. Police notified the animal control officer.

6:46 p.m. A Butternut Circle parent reported someone slashed the tires on their son’s car, possibly sometime the previous night. The caller said other cars on their property had been vandalized in the past. Police responded.

10:08 p.m. A 60-year-old Pennsylvania man was charged with drunken driving after the red SUV he was driving slammed into a stone wall on Monument Street. Two people called 911 to report the crash and that the driver was stuck inside but conscious. An ambulance took the driver to Emerson Hospital, where police officers met him. An investigation led to his arrest for operating under the influence of alcohol, negligent driving, and marked lane violations. The driver was released on bail.

Thursday, September 19

8:43 a.m. A Lee Drive resident called to speak with the animal control officer regarding a dog bite that had happened the day before at Lowell and Barretts Mill Roads. The officer followed up.

10 a.m. A man went to the police station to demand extra traffic patrols on Thoreau Street. He said he is “concerned with high school drivers” speeding and singled out a black Audi. He reported a gray Subaru Forester drove through a stop sign near Concord-Carlisle High School recently and almost hit his daughter while she was walking.

2:06 p.m. A Shirley Street resident said she received an email from an unknown sender attempting to blackmail her into sending a Bitcoin payment. The email included a PDF file instructing her to send them money and threatening to release explicit content of the woman if she didn’t. Police responded.

2:30 p.m. A caller reported a hit-and-run car crash in the Emerson Hospital parking garage that occurred the day before. Police took a report.

2:43 p.m. An Elm Street caller said a package was stolen from their home’s porch. Police noted the theft.

5:06 p.m. A Westford Road caller reported a “suspicious” stranger had walked up to the home the day before and claimed he was supposed to be “working on scene.” 

Friday, September 20

12:09 p.m. A routine traffic stop ended in arrest for a 52-year-old Foxborough driver who police said did not have a valid license. An officer patrolling Main Street noticed the gray Ford Fusion had no inspection sticker. After signaling the man to stop near Thoreau Street, the officer charged him with operating with a suspended license. A truck towed the car.

8:38 p.m. An Acton police officer asked local patrols to respond to a Chestnut Street residence to talk to the homeowner about past illegal dumping at a CVS. Police said the homeowner, who had left multiple medications at the pharmacy’s front door, misunderstood the store’s dropoff policy. The homeowner made arrangements to pick up the items in the morning.

Saturday, September 21

7:32 p.m. Numerous calls from Concord residents around Walden Street, Shadyside Avenue, Old Bedford Road, and Butternut Circle reported loud banging noises that sounded like fireworks near Cambridge Turnpike and Hanscom Field. Dispatch called the town of Bedford about the noise complaints, who told dispatchers it was “Bedford Day” and the town was shooting fireworks.

Sunday, September 22

9:45 a.m. Concord Country Club staff reported that a car drove over the lawn and some bushes overnight. Police obtained surveillance footage.

11:53 a.m. A Grant Street resident reported someone used her newly issued debit card at a McDonald’s in Acton earlier that day.

1:55 p.m. A Sudbury Road business employee reported someone stole credit cards from his unlocked car while it was parked in an employee lot and attempted to make purchases. Police are investigating.

Monday, September 23

12:03 p.m. A Hemlock Street resident reported her long-haired gray-and-black tabby cat had been missing since June 29. Police notified the animal control officer.

Tuesday, September 24

9:28 a.m. A Conant Street resident reported a past theft of a package worth $140 that was delivered on September 19. The homeowner said they believed it was stolen sometime before September 21. Police responded.

1:35 p.m. A Monsen Road woman reported that a dog — possibly a corgi or Lab mix — bit another dog around 8:30 a.m. at the Reformatory Branch Trail entrance. She said the dog lives in the direction of Peter Spring Road. Police notified the animal control officer.
