Myles marks 100th win as CCHS wrestlers start season

Concord-Carlisle High School wrestling had a busy December, emerging with a 3-5 record to start its season. 

The CC grapplers went 1-2 on December 14, defeating Malden Catholic 59-23, losing to Woburn 25-42, and falling to Greater Lowell 29-48. 

Senior captain Eddie Myles delivered three dominant pins, and his second victory of the day marked his 100th as a Concord-Carlisle varsity wrestler, a milestone not achieved by a CC wrestler in more than 30 years. Senior captain Miles Mattaliano went 2-1 on the day, with both wins by pin.

Sophomore Kyle Amouzgar delivered three wins, including two dominant pins. Sophomore Penn Boger went 2-1, with two victorious pins and a highly competitive, nail-biter loss. 

Other highlights include freshman Max Currie making his varsity debut with a win by pin, Savoy Hightower with two victories by pin, and freshman Max Bell with two JV wins. 

Dual meet at CCHS on December 18

In a hard-fought dual matchup against Lynnfield-North Reading, CC lost 46-27. Bell made his varsity debut and competed well in a losing effort. Jonathan Lucas battled at 175 pounds and lost a tough decision. Myles came from behind to win a decision against a highly skilled opponent at 190 pounds, and Mattaliano and Amouzgar delivered wins by pin.

George Bossie Lowell Holiday Tournament, December 20-21

More than 60 teams competed in this two-day tournament. 

Currie was down 10-1 going into the third period but closed the gap, forcing overtime, and ultimately won his match in double overtime.

Myles, Mattaliano, and Boger made it through the first day with 3-0 records, which earned them the right to compete on day two. Myles won his first day 2 match, then lost a tough decision in the semifinals. He finished the tournament in third place in the 190-pound class.

Super-quad meet at Marlborough High School 

CCHS wrestling faced four other schools on December 28, going 2-2 as a team. They beat Belmont 33-30 and Brookline 38-34, but lost to Marlborough 48-24 and to Nashoba Tech 48-39.

Boger delivered four wins for the team, pinning three opponents. Amouzgar went 2-2 on the day, Mattaliano went 2-1, and Myles won all of his matches.

Freshman Cole Olsen earned his first varsity win with a pin. Ammar Bagasra and Lucas delivered crucial wins by major decision against Brookline. Sophomore Ridha Al Thuwaini contributed a victory. Senior Will Bottfield returned to action after an injury to win a JV matchup, and Alex Koh earned a JV pin.
