The Concord-Carlisle Patriots battled powerhouse Tewksbury to a 2-2 overtime tie on January 4, with goalie Jason Swaim making 33 saves. The deadlock brought the Pats’ record to 5-1-1.
The Patriots came out fast and strong against the home team, with their defensive lines setting a solid tone early.
Despite the pressure from the Redmen, Swaim and the Patriots defenders shut down most of Tewksbury’s offensive efforts. Midway through the first period, CC’s Cam Doull connected on a precision pass from Joe Grasso to give the Patriots a 1-0 lead.
Tewksbury answered quickly, tying the game two minutes later. Tewksbury capitalized on a scramble in front of the net, scoring just before the buzzer to take a 2-1 lead into the break.
In the second period, Swaim kept the team in the game with a string of key saves. Meanwhile, Concord-Carlisle’s offense continued to press forward, generating several good scoring opportunities but finding themselves unable to break through Tewksbury’s defense.
Heading into the third period, the Patriots pushed hard to move Tewksbury out of their defensive zone, creating solid chances and keeping the pressure on the opposing goaltender. With just 2:33 remaining in regulation, CC’s power play produced when Ben Ohanian made a perfect pass to Cam Doull, who one-timed the puck and buried it to tie the game 2-2.
CC had its chances, but Tewksbury stood firm. Despite relentless pressure from the Patriots, the overtime period ended in a 2-2 draw. The team was scheduled to meet North Andover on January 8 and Boston Latin on January 11.
