Dr. Michael Williams announces run for School Committee

January 10, 2025

Concord has been home for over three decades. Our four children were raised here and attended Concord’s public schools. I would posit that our family’s experience might offer a unique perspective on both our community and our schools, a perspective not commonly appreciated in our municipal bodies.

I was moved to become involved in civic affairs after seeing instances of inequity occur in our community, episodes where we had failed to meet the high ideals we espouse. In the aftermath of these incidents, neither accountability was sought nor resolution reached. I have seen instances of disparities in educational equity, student support, and academic achievement adversely affect all the children in our community. I believe we aspire to better.

I have supported our public schools, as they formed a solid foundation for our children’s intellectual growth. As a retired Concordian, I have watched with concern as high school construction, middle school construction, and, potentially, amenity building costs, have made increasing demands on our tax dollar. Such a path, if continued, strains sustainability. I believe we can do better.

I have advocated that the guiding principle our municipal leaders follow result in decisions that, where consistent with state and local law, allow the greatest possible freedoms be granted to the widest possible swath of our populace. In doing so, we foster a diverse, welcoming, economically vital community that grants an equitable educational experience which allows all the potential for success. I believe we can be better.

I believe we all want a Concord that embraces all. I feel called to work toward that end. I believe you do as well. I ask for your support as a candidate for our School Committee.
