Concord kicked off 2025 with a shout-out from the New York Times as the paper included it alongside Lexington on its list of 52 places to visit this year.

In a feature that highlighted destinations from Australia to an Arctic archipelago, the Times noted local plans around the 250th anniversary of the start of the Revolutionary War.

In an email, tourism manager Beth Williams said the town “is thrilled to be included” on the list.

She thanked officials in the state Office of Travel and Tourism “for their invaluable support in bringing this recognition to our community” and said the honor “is a testament to the tireless efforts” of 250th organizers.

In a separate statement, Concord250 Executive Committee co-chairs Rob Munro and Gary Clayton said, “It was validating to see the article point to the entire region.”

Munro and Clayton noted Concord’s history “of serving as a small town with a national/international influence.”

Much as it led the way in the American Revolution, the New York Times said Massachusetts is leading the way toward next year’s 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence with events in Concord, Lexington and other communities this spring. “Our celebrations will bring historical conversations to the present,” the chairs later added. “[T]his exposure will help ensure those conversations are inclusive and rooted in the area’s history, of which we are quite proud.”

“Concretely,” Munro and Clayton said, the nod “may also help us welcome more visitors on this important weekend!”
