CCHS club plays pingpong to help fund medical research

January 17, 2025

On December 20, the CCHS Ping Pong Club hosted its first winter tournament. Seventy-two students and teachers competed, and many more stopped by to enjoy the three hours of festivities. Nearly 100 members of the CC community attended.

Participants competed to win winter- and holiday-themed prizes while bringing their best holiday spirit. Some played friendly matches against their peers, and the club invited U.S. Youth National team members Krish Gandhi and Yishiuan Lin from Lexington High School to challenge participants.

The Ping Pong Club was started in 2023 by students who wanted to enjoy the sport and raise money for those affected by cancer and Alzheimer’s. Since then, the club has expanded to include the community and become one of the most popular clubs, and it teamed up with Kicks for Cancer to run a schoolwide tournament to support its cause.

With the help of their club adviser, Rachel Berger, the officers spent many hours balancing extracurricular commitments and event coordination.

The club has raised more than $700 for Mass General Hospital for Alzheimer’s research. We thank Walden Italian Kitchen for supplying pizza and Mass General Fundraising Community for the opportunity. The club is grateful to the CCHS administration, especially Martha Hammer, who was instrumental in providing the facility for the event. Thanks to the Lexington High School Ping Pong Club, led by Gandhi and Lin, for their collaboration and participation.

As club co-president, I would like to thank the incredible team I have the privilege of working with: Kevin Li, Brendan Leonardo, Pedro Nachbin, Adrien Guinebertiere, Kyle Amouzgar, Silas Harmon, Chen-Shin Lin, Theo Mamao, and Jude Hedlund. We would also like to acknowledge Rachel Berger and Justin Amidon for helping the event run smoothly.

Donations are still being accepted at because.massgeneral.org.
