Concordians who love skating are drawn to Nick Macone Pond off Lowell Road to play hockey or just glide on the ice. Concord’s Jason Andrews, whose in-laws live next to the pond, serves as its de facto caretaker when it freezes. He updates locals on ice thickness, clears snow, and records the number of good skating days.
That said, Massachusetts State Police this week warned Bay Staters to exercise care on ice despite the recent cold snap, saying Thursday afternoon that “at this time, we’re not confident that any Massachusetts body of water has adequately frozen for activities like walking, skating, or fishing.”
Stay safe, Concord.
