Our home was affected by the fire in the Main Street duplex on the morning of January 6. We watched as Concord firefighters, along with firefighters from surrounding towns, battled the fire.
Firefighters are selected and trained to have the courage to go into a house on fire, to climb up a ladder onto a roof in freezing temperatures, to have the strength to swing an axe over one’s head to open up a ceiling. To see this in action in defense of our home was awe-inspiring.
We’re grateful to the Concord firefighters, to Chief Judge and the other fire officers who were there, to the Concord police and water, Public Works and Municipal Light and the EMS who responded. And to the firefighters of Acton, Maynard, Lincoln, Bedford, Sudbury, and Lexington who came to help, and to the Hanscom AFB and Boxborough firefighters whose coverage permitted the other departments to respond. And to the longstanding mutual aid agreements that made this all possible.
All of this represents public service at its best. Concord has every reason to be proud. We are so very grateful to each and every one of the responders who helped.
