Despite late rally, girls hoops falls to Waltham 34-32

Despite a combined 26 points by Teagan Morrisey, Beulah Odunze, and May Isenberg, the Patriots lost a close contest to Waltham on January 17, 34-32. CC’s record now sits at 4-4 overall and 2-2 in the Dual County League.

The Patriots got on the board first with a Camila Bury layup. Beulah Odunze sank a three-pointer, but Waltham went on a 14-point run and led 14-5 after the first quarter.

The CC defense allowed two key three-pointers during the second quarter and trailed 26-13 at intermission. 

Led by Morrisey and Isenburg, CC started the second half on a 11-2 run to cut the Waltham lead to 28-24 before Waltham got its lone field goal of the third quarter to take a 30-24 lead into the fourth.

Waltham started the fourth with a 4-0 run to take a 34-24 lead but was then held scoreless for the last six minutes of the game.

The Patriots went on 8-0 run, with their last point coming on a Jill Brennan free throw to make the score 34-32 with 16 seconds to go.

CC was unable to get a steal and was forced to foul with seven seconds to go. Waltham missed both free throws, but the final score held at 34-32.
