Warren L. Covert Jr., 78, of Concord, died peacefully at home on January 29, 2025. He was the loving husband for 44 years of Mary M. Fenoglio and loving father of Mark W. Covert of Concord and Sean E. Covert of Grantham, New Hampshire.
He was born in Kearny, New Jersey, on April 26, 1946. He graduated from Kearny High School, where he made lifelong friends, and went on to Fairleigh Dickinson University to earn a bachelor’s in history, later earning a master’s at Eastern Michigan State University. After college, he was accepted to the Naval Officer’s Candidate School.
Warren was a proud veteran who served for over 30 years in the Naval Reserves and saw active duty and combat in Vietnam and Operation Desert Storm. He achieved the rank of commander and was the first in his family to go to college and to become an officer.
All his life Warren was interested in history and closely followed current political and cultural events. He enjoyed exploring new technologies, playing strategy games, and learning about the wines of the world. His passion, though, was music, especially the music of the 1960s and 1970s.
He played a mean game of chess, and a not so great game of golf, but he loved them both. He will be sorely missed by his family and all those who knew him.
Family and friends will gather for a graveside service with U.S. Navy military honors at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, February 7, at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery (Knoll Section), 361 Bedford Street.
Concord’s town flag will fly at half-staff on February 7 in recognition of Warren’s honorable military service.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Disabled American Veterans (DAV), The Wounded Warrior Project, Operation Second Chance, or the Alzheimer’s Association.
Arrangements are entrusted to Dee Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Concord. To share a memory or to offer a condolence in his online guestbook, visit DeeFuneralHome.com.
