In North Andover, the Patriots, backstopped by junior goalie Sam Griswold, and the Scarlet Knights played scoreless hockey until late in the second period, when the Knights tallied a power play goal.

Scoring picked up in a big way in the third period. Just over three minutes in,  junior Theo Price notched the first Patriots goal, assisted by seniors Trevor Bailey and Ben Ohanian, to tie the score, 1-1.

Five minutes later, the Patriots scored again, with a goal by Ohanian, assisted by junior Cam Doull and sophomore Joe Grasso, giving CC its first lead. With 3 minutes left, senior Stoddard Healy scored, with assists from Grasso and junior Will Steffens. North Andover scored late, but CC held on for the 3-2 victory.

In women’s hockey action, The girls varsity team lost a seesaw battle 5-4 to Cambridge Rindge and Latin on February 1 to drop its season record to 1-12-1.

Junior Nicky Atkins opened the Patriots’ scoring just three minutes in with an unassisted goal. CRL’s Caroline Rapp tied the score late in the period.

In the second period, junior Abby Adams capitalized on a chaotic shift change for both teams, skating the puck in alone and netting a high wrist shot for a 2-1 Patriots lead. Just 49 seconds later, CRL tied it at 2.

CC quickly regained the lead 3-2 on a power play as junior Ava Thomas scored, with assists from Atkins and junior captain Addison Healy. CRL stormed back again, and the second period ended tied at 3.

Early in the final period, with the Patriots on the power play, senior captain Sarah Alter passed to eighth grade teammate Emerson Ambrose, who sent a hard wrist shot toward CRL’s net. Healy tapped in the loose puck for a 4-3 lead with 11 minutes left. Five minutes later, CRL tied it at 4 goals apiece.

CRL took its first lead of the game 31 seconds later when CRL’s Rapp scored her second goal, the game-winner,  to go along with an assist. CRL’s 5-4 victory avenged its overtime loss to the Patriots earlier this season.
