‘Family-oriented, deeply principled, wise’: Michael Williams for School Committee

February 14, 2025

I am excited that Michael Williams is running for a spot on the School Committee and invite Concordians who don’t yet know him to take the time to find out more — he’s an all-around delightful human being, as well as an outstanding candidate for the position.

Michael is a retired pediatric surgeon and a grandfather who raised four now-grown children in Concord with his wife, Clary. He’s family-oriented, deeply principled, wise, balanced, and kind.

I’ve known Michael personally and worked with him on community initiatives and appreciate his ability to stay calm, thoughtful, and positive when under pressure. I appreciate his commitment to serving for the greater good, rather than having a narrow agenda.

In my experience in special education and mental health, I have seen children struggling in schools, completely unnecessarily. Michael’s experience as a father raising non-white children in Concord and as a surgeon working with families from many backgrounds and circumstances gives him firsthand knowledge of the importance of including and challenging all of our students to maximize their potential in a safe and supportive environment. Concord children deserve no less.

At a moment when students’ needs often overwhelm schools’ resources, Michael’s sense of proportion, his ability to work with complexity and conflicting priorities, and his ability to bring people together is exactly what we need.
