Despite loss, CCHS JV hockey heading to postseason

By Max Furman — Sports Contributor

The Concord-Carlisle JV boys hockey team closed out the regular season with a 7-0 loss to Lincoln-Sudbury on February 9. Will Richardson and Max Furman combined for 22 saves. Despite the defeat, the team remains in fourth place in the New England Sports Center league standings. Playoffs will begin February 23; the schedule and opponents will be set after the last league games on February 14.

The Patriots played three games in three days beginning Saturday, February 1. Over that weekend, they lost to Tewksbury and Algonquin, both 2-0, but bounced back with a 6-1 win over Boston Latin on February 3.

In Saturday’s game, Tewksbury tested CC goalie Will Kehoe early and often, and he made a tough glove save with four minutes left in the period. Tewksbury managed a power-play goal before the period ended, but CC’s defense, led by Dell Calabro, Aidan Moroney, Cam McWalter, Will Fairbanks, and James Jenney tightened. Kehoe turned away 26 shots, but CC lost 2-0 after Tewksbury scored an empty-net goal.

On Sunday, February 2, CC kept Algonquin scoreless in the first period. Algonquin generated more offense in the second period, scoring two goals off rebounds. Goalie Will Richardson kept Algonquin off the board in the third, but CC suffered its second consecutive 2-0 loss.

CC’s offense sprang to life Monday against Boston Latin. Jake Erston opened the scoring late in the first period before defenseman Jenney scored two goals in the second. The offense kept rolling in the second half of the game, with Bennet Layton, Erston, and Cal Alexander each adding a goal to seal the 6-1 win.
