Hartman brings ‘thorough understanding’ of budgets, business, building relationships

February 21, 2025

I served with Mary on the Concord Finance Committee for over three years, including her time as chair of that committee. Mary demonstrated a thorough understanding of town and school budgets, Town Meeting process, capital project prioritization, the balancing of community desires with sustainable tax growth, and managing a large diverse committee making recommendations on all financial matters before Town Meeting.

Mary always took the time to thoroughly investigate issues, gather information and listen to various views before forming her opinion. She was one of the hardest working members, spending many nights and weekends to ensure the Finance Committee provided useful guidance to the town on important matters. Her intellect, leadership skills, and financial background ensured productive committee debates about complex fiscal matters — the middle school project, Covid’s significant budget implications, the strength of Concord’s business community, and our dependence on residential property taxes.

Mary understands the importance of building collegial relationships to get things done and the benefits of gaining consensus on issues. She has the courage of her convictions, but also understands the need for compromise.

Select Board members oversee a broad array of complex issues and need to hit the ground running. Experience matters. Mary knows the job, understands the issues, and will continue to provide solid leadership. She has the right skills for the role and deep experience in town governance — we’re lucky to have her.

Please join me in voting to re-elect Mary Hartman to the Select Board.
