Williams a ‘seasoned, intelligent’ choice for School Committee seat

February 21, 2025

Concord is extremely fortunate to have Dr. Michael Williams, a candidate for the School Committee. He is a seasoned, intelligent, highly educated, well-spoken, and distinguished medical doctor with excellent communication skills who recently retired from his 34-year career as an ENT surgeon. Michael and his wife, Clary, have lived in Concord for over 30 years and raised their four children who attended Concord Public Schools.

Michael is kind, caring, inquisitive, principled, and committed. He has knowledge and wisdom when it comes to problem-solving that younger people have not yet achieved. We need him on the School Committee. Michael is a leader who discusses and listens carefully to others and ensures necessary research is done, various options are considered, and pros and cons evaluated. Michael works with others to help make commendable decisions.

Michael regularly attends School Committee meetings. He was the first person I remember to raise the issue of whether Concord’s METCO students were being given enough access to the calculus program and STEM programs.

At the January 21, 2025, CCHS Joint School Committee meeting, Superintendent Dr. Hunter stated that a year ago, Brian Miller and Katie Stahl (high school principals), called Concord “a tale of two schools. … It was really hard for people to see that the white kids of Concord are soaring, and kids of color are absolutely not soaring to the same level.”

It appears the METCO Parent Teacher Group was correct. This is a serious problem that has existed for some time, with no cohesive plan to address it at this point.

Vote Michael Williams for School Committee. Michael has all the requisite skills and experience, and he’s ready to tackle this and other problems in a positive and inclusive way, to promote equal educational opportunities, and improve performance for all students.
