My husband and I endorse Alexa Anderson for re-election to the School Committee. I know Alexa in two capacities. First, I know her as a parent. Our sixth grade daughters have been friends in the Concord schools since kindergarten and play on two soccer teams together. I also know her in her role on the School Committee. I have sat on the Concord Finance Committee for three years and am the current chair of the Guidelines Subcommittee; during my time on the committee, Alexa and I have collaborated for three budget cycles.
It is Alexa’s intellect, strong work ethic, experience, and deep knowledge of Massachusetts statutes and the Concord school budgets and operations that make her the most qualified candidate. These attributes are complemented by a fierce commitment to maintaining high quality schools — schools where the best teachers want to work, and where all students (both her own and yours) feel supported and included.
Last summer, Alexa was one of several School Committee members who reached out and offered to spend time educating me and other Finance Committee members on how out-of-district tuition payments work and the challenges associated with projecting them. Out-of-district tuition payments comprise more than 15% of the regional high school budget. This openness and transparency set the tone for additional productive conversations throughout the fall and ultimately led to a collaborative and measured guidelines process.
I am confident that we can build on this progress with Alexa in her role for another term. Further, as budgets come under increasing scrutiny to avoid overrides in coming years, I would welcome Alexa’s continued collaboration as well as her knowledge of the operational and budgetary details.
We encourage you to join us in voting for Alexa Anderson on April 8.
