As Concord faces a rising cost of living, it is critical that we address the growing pressures on our town’s budget that is increasingly burdening residents with higher taxes. Over the last decade, the town’s total expenses, both municipal and school costs, have grown significantly, outpacing inflation.
Concord’s Finance Committee has repeatedly warned that if this trend continues, tax bills could rise by 8% annually for the next five years, leading to a cumulative increase of nearly 50%. This projected growth is unsustainable.
We need leaders who will prioritize and ensure that spending is managed effectively. Joe Laurin has the experience and vision necessary to address these challenges. He will collaborate with the Select Board and the Town Manager to ensure that the town uses effective methodologies and tools — such as benchmarking and best practices from both public and private sectors — to bring spending in line with what is appropriate for our community. The Select Board’s core responsibility is to ensure the town budget is managed effectively, just as the School Committee is tasked with overseeing the superintendent’s budget.
Armed with an MBA from University of Chicago and deep experience as a senior leader at large and small companies, Joe has the right skill set and “can do” attitude to address these complex challenges. He will ensure that the town delivers on key priorities and push for a more balanced, sustainable budget — one that keeps Concord affordable for all residents.
We need leaders who understand the importance of fiscal responsibility. Elect Joe Laurin to the Select Board, and take the first step towards better managing our town’s budget and ensuring a brighter, more affordable future for Concord.
