I am disappointed in current School Committee members Tracey Marano, Carrie Rankin, and Andrew Herchek. By endorsing the exact same candidates in the March 14 issue of The Concord Bridge, they have let the public know exactly who they do not want to work with. We have heard rhetoric from them about the importance of being collaborative, but to me this does not demonstrate a spirit of collaboration (except perhaps with each other). To me, this shows a lack of willingness to work with people with different perspectives. I find it hard to imagine how effectively they will govern with anyone that is not their preferred candidate, and that is deeply problematic for all of us.
Michael Williams would bring much-needed perspective to our School Committee. He strongly values honesty, transparency, and equity, and he is passionate about improving the experiences of all our students. He also recognizes that the School Committee serves the wider community as well, which is especially important as we face cutbacks to town services.
My husband and I moved to Concord 45 years ago for the quality of our schools, and I know that they are strong enough to withstand thoughtful critique and come out the other side serving our children even better. Michael has the courage to stand up for his convictions and I feel confident that he will serve with integrity and push our district to be the best it can be.
