Experience, critical thinking, good judgment, and leadership are key to effective work as an elected municipal official. We are writing to endorse Mary Hartman for re-election to the Concord Select Board because she has demonstrated each of these qualities as a Select Board and Finance Committee member and chair. Mary’s many accomplishments include convening joint public meetings of the Select Board, Finance Committee, School Committee, and staff to discuss and develop responsible budgets. Such face-to-face meetings break down the “silos” among the various town divisions. This enables town leadership to leverage the talents and experience of the staff and volunteers who serve our town.
Mary has clearly articulated the need to invest in the town’s road infrastructure and to insist on corresponding safety improvements that promote bike, pedestrian, and other forms of carbon-free mobility for Concord’s residents. She recognizes that longer-term capital planning is essential to the efficient use of our local tax revenues and to capture state and federal resources to supplement the tax base. Mary recognizes that investment must be accompanied by the expansion of the town’s commercial tax base to maintain Concord as an affordable place to raise a family and age in dignity. The broad-based, thoughtful, and rapid appointments to the MCI Study Committee demonstrate Mary’s leadership.
Please join us in voting for a proven leader, Mary Hartman, on April 8.
