Ruth Caseino Lauer of Concord passed away while in hospice care in Wayland on April 5, 2025, due to complications from cancer. She was 79.
Ruth was a dedicated public citizen who had participated in town government since the family moved to Concord in 1983. She was a member of the School Committee, a member of the Select Board, the longtime editor of the town Annual Report, and an employee of the town manager’s office. She was a member of the Public Ceremonies and Celebrations Committee. She was the longest-serving elected woman in the history of the town at the time she left office.
She was also a president and longtime member of the League of Women Voters of Concord-Carlisle, and had participated in volunteer activities throughout the town, including being an LWV observer for several town committees. She was also on the board of the Greater Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra (BYSO) in which both of her sons participated.
Ruth grew up in Emporium, Pennsylvania as the daughter of the late William Caseino and Margaret (Droney) Hornung.
She was predeceased by her younger son, Arthur Wellesley Lauer, and is survived by her husband Hugh C. Lauer; her children Will, Jennifer, and Alison Lauer; and her grandchildren Alexandra and Beatrice Lauer.
Family and friends will celebrate Ruth’s life during visiting hours from 12 to 2 p.m., Saturday, April 12 at Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street. Immediately following, Ruth will be laid to rest at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.

Having earned the recognition of Concord’s Honored Citizen in 2012, Concord’s Town Flag will fly at half-staff on April 12, 2025, in honor of Ruth Lauer and her unwavering dedication to the community.
