Concord-Carlisle High School Band and Orchestra treated families to Move! — a collection of musical pieces with a unifying theme.
The audience heard works by diverse and mostly living composers, performed by Ninth-Grade Band, Orchestra, Symphony and the Concert Band. Christopher Noce, director of bands and orchestra at CCHS, conducted.
“The nice thing about working with music from living composers,” joked Noce, “is that you can talk to them without using a Ouija board.”
Standout pieces included a world-premiere symphonic performance of “Monarch Migration,” commissioned by CCHS as a consortium member in support of the Mexican Repertoire Initiative. A recording is available on CCHS’ Facebook page.
Another notable work: “March!” by composer Jennifer Jolley, commissioned in 2021 by the American Bandmasters Association. A dark parody presented as the evening’s finale, it incorporates Soviet and Korean military rhythms and melodies.
CCHS Band and Orchestra’s next performance is PRISM, December 15 and 16 at CCHS. Tickets will go on sale soon.
