Holiday Baskets Brighten Commonwealth Avenue

December 11, 2023

The elves have been hard at work: This week, two dozen members of the West Concord Green Thumbs gathered at Colonial Gardens to fill 48 baskets with seasonal greens and colorful ornaments. The baskets will hang from light posts in West Concord Center.

A collaboration between the WCGT, Colonial Gardens and Concord Public Works, the idea has been months in the making.

Last spring, Green Thumbs member Olivia Solari mentioned seeing lovely holiday displays in other towns. She asked whether Green Thumbs might do something similar. They sprang into action.

CPW Highway & Grounds Superintendent Aaron Miklosko and Assistant Highway & Grounds Superintendent Erik Shaw expected the baskets to be up by early December. The baskets are paid for by the Green Thumbs, thanks to contributions from Concord businesses and citizens.

WCGT members design and maintain five gardens, run annual plant and bulb sales, and create summer and holiday baskets for Commonwealth Avenue. To learn more, visit westconcordgreenthumbs.org.
