A “special announcement about the significance of Minute Man National Historic Park and Walden Pond/Woods” will be made by the National Trust for Historic Preservation on May 1 at The Old Manse.

In addition to a Trust representative, speakers will include:

  • Ashley Judd, a United Nations Population Fund Goodwill Ambassador, actor, author, and activist.
  • Douglas Brinkley, professor of history at Rice University and CNN presidential historian and author.
  • Public officials and local preservation and environmental organizations.

The Trust will be in Concord “to celebrate the significance of national historic landmarks,” said Anna West Winter, executive director of Save our Heritage in Concord, a host of the event.

Winter said the announcement will involve “the unique historic corridor that includes Minute Man NHP and Walden Pond/Woods, particularly in light of the upcoming 250th anniversary of the American Revolution.”

The Washington-based National Trust protects and stewards a diverse collection of 27 historic sites open to the public.

The Concord Historical Commission, the Walden Woods Project, and the Orchard House are also sponsoring the event at 11 a.m. at 269 Monument Street, rain or shine.

No RSVP is required, but attendees are urged to arrive early, as seating will be limited.
