Peter Richard Johnson.

Peter Richard Johnson, 91

September 12, 2024

Peter Richard Johnson, age 91, of Acton and Naples, Florida, formerly of Bedford, passed away peacefully and surrounded by his family on Tuesday, September 10, at Emerson Hospital in Concord. He was the beloved husband of Patricia (Fraser) Johnson, with whom he shared nearly 65 loving years of marriage.

Born on March 1, 1933 in East Orange, New Jersey, Peter was raised in Brookline, graduating from Brookline High School with the class of 1952. He enlisted in the Army in 1953 and served our country honorably during the Korean War. He attended Northeastern University, taking classes in civil engineering which formed the foundation of his professional career. For over 40 years, he owned and was president of New England Pressure Tap Company and later P.R. Johnson, Inc., both very successful general contracting firms based in Bedford.

Peter was always a dedicated family man, from running to Brookline to help his mother at her home to spending time with his much-loved brother and sister and their families to being a fixture at his five children’s many various events throughout the years. He loved spending time surrounded by his children and grandchildren, and later in life was thrilled to be great-grandfather.

Peter loved a good joke, listened more than he spoke, and could seemingly fix anything. He had a legendary sweet tooth and was never too full for a piece of chocolate or a cookie. Kind, unassuming, and humble, Peter was quick to pitch in and help out and did so without ever looking for recognition. He was a faithful parishioner at Holy Family Parish in Concord and a former member of the Bedford Knights of Columbus. In retirement, Peter enjoyed volunteer work at Household Goods in Acton, golfing and wintering at his second home in Naples for many years.

He will be deeply missed by his wife, Pat, as well as his five children: Richard P. Johnson and his wife, Suzanne, of Manassas, Virginia; Douglas A. Johnson and his wife, Cheryl, of Tyngsboro;  Linda E. Angelucci and her husband, Dante, of Weston; Carol A. Mici (Richard Hayes) of Groton; and Michael P. Johnson (Barbara) of Marblehead; his 12 grandchildren: Derek, Kevin, Scott, Lauren, James, Rebecca, Steven, Katrina, Dante, Ava, Ashley, and Caroline; and his three great-grandchildren, Andrew, Emily, and Henry. He also leaves his sister, Constance McNulty, and his brother, Robert Johnson (Brenda), and many nieces and nephews. Peter was predeceased by his parents, Arthur and Mary Johnson; his grandson, Nicolas Peter Angelucci; and his brother, Paul Johnson.

Visiting hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., Monday, September 16, in the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center. His funeral will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 17, from Dee Funeral Home, followed by a 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Family Parish, 12 Monument Square, Concord Center. Burial will follow at Shawsheen Cemetery, Bedford.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Perkins School for the Blind (www.perkins.org) or Holy Family Parish (www.cc-catholic.org).
