It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Gigi Estabrook, who left us peacefully on September 24, 2024. A Celebration of Life will be held on November 9, 2024, at Elephant’s Corbett Room at 5221 S. Corbett Avenue, Portland, Oregon from 1:30 to 4:30pm.
Born in 1945, Gigi lived a vibrant life, brightening our world with her wit, humor, and unforgettable personality. A native of Boston, she proudly carried her no-nonsense New England attitude throughout her life.
Gigi is survived by her children, Mischa Hey (Carrie Norris) and Whitney Rhoades (Chris Rhoades), her sister Tara Estabrook (Bruce Peterson), numerous nieces and nephews, and her beloved dog, Wicket. She was preceded in death by her brother, Reed Estabrook.
Gigi began her career as a technical editor at Cambridge Computer Associates and later became a certified Feng Shui consultant. She shared her love of books and healing during her time at New Renaissance Bookshop.
In 2005, Gigi moved to Portland after a single visit. She settled in the Alberta Arts District, embracing the creative spirit of the neighborhood and building a welcoming home for friends and family. She loved good food, especially ice cream, coffee, and Oregon wines, and kept family traditions like caviar pie alive at every holiday.
A passionate animal lover, Gigi volunteered at the Oregon Humane Society, where she adopted her dog, Wicket. She was a lifelong advocate for women’s equality and marched for reproductive rights in D.C.
Gigi’s vibrant personality shone through her colorful outfits and love for travel. She enjoyed adventures to Bhutan, Nepal, Europe, Alaska, and Mexico. Even when she faced mobility issues and a double hip replacement in 2023, she remained positive and self-sufficient.
Gigi’s laughter, wisdom, and love will be forever missed. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Oregon Humane Society in her honor.
