And so now we have “Let’s Roll, Concord” — a new and more expensive trash and recycling collection service.
Yes, there will be fewer trucks needed, which will reduce the carbon footprint. That’s good. But many of us older citizens do not put trash and recycling out every week and haven’t for some years. We use less, have less, consume less.
Why has the town not taken us (and our reduced carbon footprint) into consideration and offered us a less costly service? Perhaps a once every two weeks or a once a month service? Surely this can’t be too difficult to enact.
The boards and offices that serve the town do not appear to give enough attention to the needs of senior citizens like myself. We continue to volunteer with organizations that maintain the town’s vibrancy, we support local merchants, keep our properties in attractive appearance for the beauty of the town, support the arts, pay rising taxes while on fixed incomes, etc.
We wish to continue to live here, and are distressed — might I say saddened? — to find that wish ever more elusive. The increased cost of trash/recycling collection (like the need for smaller houses — please take note, Planning Board and ZBA) adds to the strain.
