A recent letter to The Concord Bridge from the president of the Concord250 Corporation acknowledged some of the events and programs that will unfold in the months ahead as we celebrate the 250th anniversary of the beginning of the American Revolution in Concord.
On behalf of the town’s Concord 250 Executive Committee, we appreciate the Corporation’s funding support for several activities sponsored or approved by the Committee.
Unlike the Corporation, the Committee is a town entity established and supported by the Select Board, Town Manager, and many volunteers from throughout Concord whose commitment and dedication to this special and complex 250th anniversary endeavor is nothing short of extraordinary.
The Town of Concord and the state have provided significant funding support for the broad scope of efforts needed to ensure safe and enjoyable programs and events. As such, most of these funds are devoted to public safety and related needs associated with the events in Concord leading up to and including April 19, 2025. We also do this in thoughtful coordination with nearby Battle Road towns and the National Park Service.
At the same time, we continue to seek funds in cooperation with our local schools, businesses, and non-profit organizations to support the growing enthusiasm for lively educational, historical, environmental, and arts related commemorative programs. For example, this will include an ambitious townwide sustainability initiative to plant 250 trees — for this and future generations — to honor the seminal role of Concord in our nation’s history.
