Pivoting from restaurant to private events and catering, Nosh owner Elizabeth Akehurst-Moore is charting a course for the future at the Lowell Road complex that includes Nosh and the Concord Market.
“We’ve evolved into a new business,” says Akehurst-Moore.
She says the full-service restaurant business fell off after Covid, while private rentals grew in popularity. Besides, “I’d rather be doing this.”
In charge of the reimagined business is Concord native Keir Weinberg, who comes with a long resume of jobs in event planning in New York City, the Museum of Fine Arts, and The Cheese Shop of Concord.
Kitchen kismet
Weinberg says planning events is her “passion.”
She managed large-scale, high-end events at the MFA for six years before the pandemic. Casting about afterward, Weinberg contacted Akehurst-Moore and landed a position as wine buyer at Concord Market.
Although Nosh was “doing well,” with patrons enjoying the jazz brunches as well as the regular menu, Akehurst-Moore especially enjoyed the private events, from 150-person receptions to smaller parties. So hiring Weinberg, with a background in managing events from decor to food, was a perfect match.
Nosh provides off-site catering for large and small events as well as rentals of the spaces, including a full bar and kitchen.
‘An interactive culinary space’
Weinberg is keen to plan “special occasion events around food,” such as cooking and tasting parties when the space is not rented otherwise.
“I can see an interactive culinary space here,” Weinberg says.
Akehurst-Moore says the market blends well with the Nosh’s party-planning and catering concept.
Nosh “is a department of the market,” she says, where food from the Nosh kitchen and drinks can be served on the mezzanine above the market.
“It’s a full-service event planning and catering business,” Weinberg says.
