On the hunt for another Division 1 state championship, the CCHS boys soccer team came out firing against top-seeded Lexington last Friday night — and their intensity paid off with a 3-2 victory.

CC kept the pressure on the Lexington keeper with several shots on net, and P.J. Jantzen made a long throw into the box in the eighth minute of play. Jack Peppercorn added a nice kick to Jamo Velez, who buried the ball to put CC up 1-0.

CC goalkeeper Ky Pavlik made a thrilling stop in the 14th minute, keeping Lexington off the board. In the 29th minute, Eli Siefer free-kicked from the right side into the box, and Tyler Shepherd headed it into the far side of the net for a goal and a CC 2-0 lead at halftime.

Lexington retaliated with a goal in the 45th minute and then scored again for a 2-2 tie.

With minutes left in regulation play, Mike Jantzen put the ball up to Jamo Velez, who flicked it to Joe Ferrari. He made a superb cross right up to Cooper Balfour, who beat a Lexington defender and slammed a rocket past the keeper into the left side of the net for the win.
