We have lived in Concord for 11 years and have appreciated the excellent services of the town. However, we believe the new waste and recycling arrangements create severe problems for many in the town, and in particular for senior citizens, the disabled, and those who live some distance from the pick-up area. In particular:
1. I know there were hearings on the proposed changes, but it is clear the system has to be experienced to understand difficulties.
2. Other towns use this system, but Concord is different in that many properties are some distance from the pick-up area.
3. The recycling container is huge and heavy, and I think will lead many to stop recycling and use tags on bags to be disposed of as waste rather than recycling. Many seniors and disabled residents will not be able to move the containers.
4. Seniors and disabled residents who may be less able to afford it will be forced to seek commercial removers of their waste and recycling.
5. I hope town leaders will seek alternatives and other areas of support for those not able to use the new system.
