As a Concord resident, I continue to be frustrated by the persistent lack of cell service in our downtown area. I recall a past letter to The Bridge a while ago from a resident who expressed opposition to the idea of a new cell tower in town. While I respect their opinion, I believe that this must represent a very small portion of our community.
Since that letter, I have seen little to no conversation or action on this issue, and it feels as though the problem has largely been ignored. I have noticed that the parking meters in town have been removed since they required connectivity to operate with credit cards. Their removal is wonderful for shoppers and the local businesses, however, I cannot help but wonder if this change also signals a shift in the town’s plans to improve cell coverage.
Looking ahead to our 250th anniversary this April, our lack of improved connectivity is not just an inconvenience, it is a public safety issue and a missed opportunity for the local economy. Reliable cell service is essential for the well-being and growth of our community. I hope the Select Board will reply to this query — I am not alone in asking.
