Regarding Dakota Antelman’s excellent report in the December 6, 2024, issue of The Concord Bridge, I write to encourage the Regional School Committee to ask the many youth sports groups to take on the task of fundraising for the amenities building they think the town deserves.
Concord is the only town in the commonwealth that has built five schools in under 20 years, two of which were built without state aid and without the cost constraints state aid imposes. We read regularly of the real estate tax increases we will face in coming years as a result of this action.
There are many in town who believe an amenities building is a priority and who can afford to write a check to support it. It sure would be nice if, in the process, they could thank — as our fine superintendent regularly does — the taxpayers, many of whose children have long since departed our excellent school system, for their ongoing payment of the excluded debt that has resulted from the building of those five schools.
