Bruce Kenyon Lockhart Willard, 83, long-time resident of Concord, passed away on Tuesday, October, 25, 2022 in Emerson Hospital after a long illness.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 65 years, Patricia (Fulton) Willard, a brother, Derek Willard (Pamela) of Iowa City, Iowa, three daughters; Linda Powell (Scott), of Meredith, NH, Lisa DeBeradine (Tom) of Bedminster, NJ, and Laurie Baser (Marshall), of Madison, CT, seven grandchildren; Valerie Powell, Dr. Dustin Powell (Andrea), Thomas DeBeradine, Angela Rotellini (Bruno), Michael DeBerardine, Ethan Baser, Paige Baser; two great-grandchildren, Arabella and Adelina Rotellini, nieces, nephews and a wide circle of friends and neighbors.
Born in Worcester, MA on November 12, 1938, he was the son of the late Raymond and Ruth (Kenyon) Willard. Bruce’s early years were in Charlton, MA before the family returned to his father’s hometown. He graduated from Concord High School, Bentley School of Accounting, certificate, Northeastern University, B.S. and Babson College, M.B.A. For more than 50 years, he brought his extensive education and experience to his career in accounting and finance for MIT’s Lincoln Laboratory including as Chief Financial Officer. He was active in, and held offices in The Institute of Management Accounting, both the Boston Chapter, President, and a director at the national level.
Bruce and Pat were married in 1956 and settled in Concord, where they were active and faithful members of the Trinity Episcopal Church including his involvement with the many projects in the completion of the “new church” and his service as the Church’s Treasurer.
Bruce is a descendant of Simon Willard, one of the founders of Concord, and enjoyed the history and opportunity to meet other descendants. Bruce enjoyed time spent on the Concord and Sudbury Rivers and sailing in the Barrington River and Narragansett Bay, RI with his wife Pat. They enjoyed several trips to other countries as well as travel in the United States. He also enjoyed wine making, many styles of music including jazz, and local theatre productions. He enjoyed the sport of auto racing, which included a racecourse training class that he completed. He spent many years enjoying and working on his property and that of the Annursnac Hill Association, including serving as Landscape chairman, and hiking the many trails around Concord and beyond.
Family and friends will gather to honor and remember Bruce for his memorial service on Saturday, November 12, 2022, at 11:00 am at Trinity Episcopal Church, 81 Elm St., Concord. Burial will follow in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.
