Maybe it was the long-sought freedom to celebrate after the COVID-19 years, but Concord’s annual tree lighting on Sunday night brought an unusually large and boisterous crowd that poured into the Milldam and Monument Square.
Nonprofit groups and town departments had booths with food and games, carolers sang through the streets and in front of the Bank of America, the Beantown Swing Band performed a show-stopping concert and shops were open late, most with treats inside for families to enjoy.
The event wound up with a parade from Stow St. to Monument Sq. with Santa Claus bringing up the rear in a fire truck. The Recreation Department pulled the event together this year, and Director Anna McKeown praised the town-wide effort: “The Recreation Department is honored to coordinate an event that brings the community so much joy.
This year’s event was our largest yet with 36 participating businesses, six caroling groups, a meet-and-greet with various Disney characters, and of course The Beantown Swing Orchestra. We would be remiss to not thank the Concord Police Department, Fire Department, Public Works, Municipal Light Department, Facilities Department and Public Ceremonies & Celebrations Committee for their support in making this annual event a huge success.”
