Claire B. (Zavistowski) Vecchio, 94, formerly of Concord, died on Saturday, Nov. 19 at the D’Youville Community in Lowell. She was the devoted wife for 53 years of the late Joseph F. Vecchio, who died in 2004.
She was born in Orange, NJ on Aug.1, 1928 to her parents, Peter and Amelia (Otto) Zavistowski. She grew up in Bloomfield, NJ, attended Bloomfield High School, and was married January 27, 1951. She and her family lived in Bloomfield, Clifton, and Millington and she spent her time raising six children and working as a bookkeeper. From when she was very young, summer visits to the Jersey Shore brought her great joy. She also enjoyed golfing, classical music, playing the accordion, and reading.
After the family settled in Concord in 1971, she continued raising her children. She worked for Byron & Moilanenfor eight years, and for the office of Dr. Andrea Resciniti for five years. She loved nothing more than to spend time with her family. For twenty years, she and her husband wintered in South Carolina with her daughter, Joanne and her family. An avid traveler, she journeyed to many destinations throughout the world.
Claire leaves behind her children, James Vecchio and his wife Isa Ormsby of Concord, Diane Chellis and her husband Herb of Acton, Barbara King and her husband Matthew of Austin, TX, Carol Smith and her partner Dana Hardy of Moultonboro, NH and Joanne Brockway and her husband David of Mt. Pleasant, SC. She was predeceased by her son, the late John Vecchio and his late wife Sue, and she was sister to the late Frances Stiles. She is survived by 15 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
Family and friends will gather for visiting hours on Sunday, Nov. 27t from 2 to 5 p.m. in the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord, MA. Her funeral will be held on Monday, Nov. 28t at 9 a.m. from Dee Funeral Home, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Parish, Monument Square, Concord Center. Burial will follow at St. Bernard’s Cemetery in Concord.
