Margaret Rose (Toomey) Dolan, wife of the late Robert F. Dolan, passed peacefully on Nov. 17 at age 85.
She was the daughter of the late state Sen. Charles T. Toomey and Margaret Graham Toomey of Johnston, RI. She was a graduate of St. Xavier’s Academy in Providence and Salve Regina University in Newport.
Growing up in a family that loved music led to her taking piano lessons at age 12, which she continued through the years. She fondly remembered growing up in Johnston, and many family summers with her brothers in Truro. Her love of the ocean would continue with her own family over decades at Bonnett Shores in Narragansett. She met her husband Robert (then at Providence College) at a dance when she was attending Salve Regina in 1956. They married in 1960. Margaret taught in the Providence Public School system in the early 1960s before moving with her husband to Rockville, Maryland and Alliance, Ohio before settling with her growing family in Concord in 1968.
In 1985, she returned to teaching at the Brooks School in Lincoln where she remained until 2001. Margaret was an active communicant at St. Bernard Church for many years, volunteering in the business office and teaching CCD. In later years, she was dedicated to the Holy Family Parish Choir. She was an avid walker who loved the Town of Concord and its history. Above all, she cherished her deep personal lasting friendships with so many Concordians, which were a part of the fabric of the town itself for more than 50 years.
Margaret is survived by her three sons: Thomas J. Dolan and wife Julie O’Neil Dolan of Ft. Myers Beach, Florida, John C. Dolan and his wife Maura Casey Dolan of Wellesley, and Christpher R. Dolan of Alexandria, Virginia; her grandchildren, MacManus Dolan of Boston, Kelliher Dolan of Somerville, Neilan Dolan of Los Angeles, Jack Dolan and Brendan Dolan of South Boston, James Dolan and Caroline Dolan of Wellesley, her brothers Charles T. Toomey of Concord and Naples, Florida, and Dr. Edward Graham Toomey and his wife Janet of Concord. She was predeceased by her brother Thomas J. Toomey and his late wife Louise of Providence, RI.
Family and friends will gather for her Funeral Mass on Saturday, Dec. 3 at 10 am in Holy Family Parish, Monument Square, Concord Center, followed by burial at St. Bernard’s Cemetery in Concord.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, KS 66675 (www.woundedwarriorproject.org).
