Music from the Library, sponsored by the Friends of the Concord Free Public Library, presents three concerts in the library rotunda in its 2023 spring season: February 11, March 18, and April 15. All concerts are Saturday evenings at 7:30 p.m. The doors open at 7 p.m. The concerts are free, but reservations are required.
On February 11. Rolf Schulte, violin and James Winn, piano perform works by Ravel, Debussy, Stravinsky, and Donald Martino. German-born Rolf Schulte studied at the Curtis Institute in Philadelphia and has been a soloist with major orchestras and premiered works by prominent composers. Locally, he has been associated with Harvard University, Tanglewood, and the Composers Conference at Wellesley College and Brandeis University. James Winn, piano and composition professor at the University of Nevada Reno is a soloist, duo-pianist, chamber musician, and collaborative pianist who has performed and recorded extensively with Schulte.
On March 18. David Deveau presents Beethoven’s powerful last three piano sonatas, opus 109, 110, and 11. He is a graduate of New England Conservatory and Juilliard and has performed with major orchestras, including many in Boston, and taught at MIT until his recent retirement. He was the Artistic Director of the Rockport Chamber Music Festival for 23 years, seeing it through the building of the Shalin Liu Performance Center.
The last program is on April 15. The American Brass Quintet performs works from the Renaissance to contemporary composers Jennifer Higdon, Joan Tower, and Eric Ewazen. The quintet, founded in 1960, is internationally recognized as one of the premier chamber ensembles of our time. It is in residence at the Juilliard School and the Aspen Music Festival and has commissioned works from major composers, contributing to the modern brass quintet repertoire.
