Winifred B. Bush, 102, a resident of Newbury Court in Concord, died peacefully in her residence on the evening of Thursday, Feb. 23.
She was born in Forsyth, Georgia on August 24, 1920. She was the daughter of the late Morgan Bennett Bridges and Annie Sutton Bridges. She was the devoted and loving wife for 49 years of the late Walter Meiggs Bush. All of her siblings predeceased her. Her school years were spent in Forsyth where she attended the Mary Persons High School. She continued her education at Georgia State College for Women and graduated from Georgia Alabama Business School in Macon.
She had a career in the business world as a Certified Public Accountant, where she operated her own company for 39 years in Concord, and continued to work part time for selected clients. In 1987, Mrs. Bush was cited in the local newspaper as a “Pioneer” in an article featuring notable women leaders.
Mrs. Bush was involved in charitable work for many years, and served as Treasurer of the Concord Chamber of Commerce, Concord Family Service Society and Friends of the Concord Free Public Library. She was also a dedicated volunteer at the Emerson Hospital reception desk.
Mrs. Bush was an active philanthropist who supported a variety of organizations through her generous giving over many years.
Mrs. Bush believed in staying active which included golf, bridge and concerts at the Boston Symphony Orchestra. She was a former golf club champion at the Concord Country Club, where she was a longtime member. In addition, she was an accomplished gardener; her home was a beautiful example.
She leaves behind many dear friends and caregivers within the Newbury Court community and beyond.
Funeral services and burial at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in Concord will be private.
