Richly deserving of the Honored Citizen award, Phebe exemplifies the ideal of public citizen, causing “good trouble” as John Lewis said of Rosa Parks. I first met her over twenty years ago when she recruited me, with her trademark persistent persuasion, to do some number crunching for her Fair Assessments Now project during the 2003, I believe, reassessments. She assembled quite a team – we scoured the town and property records finding anomalies and peppered the Board with charts, graphs, comps and PowerPoint presentations. While we didn’t win ‘em all, I believe we succeeded in getting abatements for many homeowners and helped create a fairer, more transparent tax assessment system in the process. This is just one of the fruits of Phebe’s tireless bicycle-driven, carbon-footprint-free, ahead of her time activism. Thank you.
