The Concord Women’s Chorus would like to thank the Concord Cultural Council for a generous grant given through the Massachusetts Cultural Council in support of our commissioned piece “Grown Wild”, which the chorus performed in a world premiere on October 23, 2022. Using a poem by former chorus member Melissa Apperson, Melissa Dunphy, who is an award-winning composer of opera and choral works, created this haunting piece for women’s voices, piano and violin. Chorus Director Jane Ring Frank leads the chorus in our mission to present pieces for women’s voices and by women composers, including the well-known, the forgotten and the up-and-coming. The Concord Cultural Council grant helped us add a new quality piece to this repertoire, which will be available to women’s chorus world-wide.
For more information on the creation of “Grown Wild” and to view an interview with both the composer and the poet, visit our website concordwomenschorus.org. Join us on May 13 at 4 PM at the Trinity Episcopal Church for our spring concert “Come Day, Come Night”.
