Opera51 will present Giacomo Puccini’s operatic masterpiece, “Tosca,” sung in Italian, fully staged by Laura Prichard, costumed by Robin Farnsley, and with full orchestra led by Alan Yost. Two casts provide a total of four performances between Friday, June 9 and Sunday, June 11 at The Performing Arts Center at 51 Walden in Concord, MA.
Rome in 1800 is the setting for La Tosca, Victorien Sardou’s lurid melodrama of love and jealousy, power and intrigue, loyalty and betrayal, sacrifice and selfishness, piety and murder. Librettists Luigi Illica and Giuseppe Giacosa helped Puccini to transform this play into one of the world’s most beloved, popular operas. There will be an informative talk by musicologist Laura Prichard before each performance.
