Elaine N. (Soutter) Bamford, 93, a longtime Chelmsford resident, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, at Lowell General Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Frederick Emerson Bamford with whom she shared 43 years of marriage until his passing in 2004.
She was born in Lowell, MA on July 22, 1929, and was a daughter of the late James and Hazel E. (Peterson) Soutter.
She was a very dedicated and loving daughter, wife, mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother. She was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church and regularly volunteered with other church members at Lowell Transitional Living Center and St. Paul’s Soup Kitchen in Lowell. She was a very active participant in the Trinity Seniors group. She was also a longtime member of the Chelmsford Garden Club and organized and led garden therapy at the Chelmsford Senior Center and area nursing homes. She was a graduate of Katharine Gibbs School of Boston and for many years was employed as an instructor and supervisor at New England Telephone and Telegraph Company.
Elaine leaves her son Mark Emerson Bamford and his wife Dolores Snyder Bamford of Concord, MA; her grandson, Austin Snyder Bamford and his wife Kate Ross and her grandson, Henry Emerson Bamford.
Visiting Hours will be held on Monday, June 19, 2023, from 4 – 6 pm at the BLAKE CHELMSFORD FUNERAL HOME, 24 Worthen St., CHELMSFORD. Her Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, June 20, at 10 am at Trinity Lutheran Church, 170 Old Westford Rd., CHELMSFORD. KINDLY GATHER AT THE CHURCH.
