Major M. White, 82

Major M. White, 82, a retired mechanical design engineer, and forty year resident of Concord, died after a long illness on June 28, 2023 at Robbins Brook in Acton. 

Major was born in Sparta, Georgia on December 5, 1940.  Major attended Trenton, NJ public schools, followed by Howard University, School of Engineering, Washington, DC. He graduated with a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Major was a devoted father and an avid golfer throughout his adult life. He was a member of the Howard University varsity golf team. After college, he played in golf leagues in NJ and MA. He was a member of the Inner Club at Green Meadow Golf Course, Hudson, NH for several decades.

Major worked for Curtiss Wright Aeronautical Company in NJ as a mechanical design engineer. He moved to the Boston area where he worked at Itek Optics Company, Lexington. He designed medical devices for Hewlett Packard Company for several years, then moved to Polaroid Corporation, designing optical projects for nearly a decade. Several other companies included AT&T Bell Labs, Andover, DEC, Marlboro, Drager Medical, Methuen, and Teradyne Company.  After retiring in 2015, he enjoyed traveling to visit family and playing golf.  He was also a head usher at First Parish in Concord for many years. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.

Major is survived by his wife Holli Jones-White; his son, Mark M. White of Concord; his sisters Alice M. Jefferson and Lynette (Cookie) White; his brother Sammy White; his brother-in-law Joseph Marrow; his sisters-in-law Paulette Washington White and Sharon White. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. Major was predeceased by his parents, Eva Chatman White and L. Thomas White; his sisters Carolyn E. Marrow and Catherine W. Sumners; and his brothers Bobby, Ernest, Larry, and Ronald White.

A memorial service is being planned for this fall at First Parish in Concord, MA.  The date and time will be announced soon. The family plans to have a private interment at Ewing Cemetery in Ewing, NJ.
