Four fires — two at the Beede Swim Center, one at the U.S. Post Office and one on National Park property — are under investigation after they were all discovered Sunday.
A woman was taken into custody in Arlington on Sunday and brought to an area hospital for evaluation, said Jake Wark, a spokesperson for the Massachusetts Department of Fire Services on Monday morning.
She has not been charged. The investigating agencies will make a decision on charges in conjunction with the District Attorney’s office.
The series of fires broke out within a single hour Sunday afternoon:
- At noon, Concord Police and Fire received reports of a fire at the Beede Swim Center, 498 Walden St. Two fires, one behind the swim center and the other in front of the center, were extinguished.
- At 12:30 p.m., a fire at the U.S. Post Office located at 34 Walden St. was reported and extinguished.
- At 1 p.m. a fourth fire was reported at a shed located on National Park Property at 955 Lexington Road.
- In addition, items that are possibly related to the other incidents were located outside of Concord District Court.
No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fires has been deemed suspicious and is under investigation by Concord Police with assistance from the National Park Service, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), Massachusetts State Police, and the State Police Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit attached to the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
