A big thank you to the several Town of Concord Departments, Carole Wayland, 51 Walden and the Picnic in the Park volunteers who were involved in the planning process for Picnic in the Park, the 4th of July celebration that normally takes place at Emerson Field. Everything was progressing well until the rains came, and the forecast for July 4th showed rain for most of the day. On Sunday, July 2, the decision was made to cancel the field portion of the celebration at Emerson Field.
Thanks to the wonders of modern communications, word of the cancellation was transmitted to the community with a caveat that the three musical units would perform at 51 Walden. So, starting at noon the originally planned entertainment commenced with Rockabye Beats playing to a large group of young people with parents. To the delight of the bluegrass devotees, Southern Rail followed and played to a full house. As the finale, the Concord Band provided a rousing concert of patriotic music to an eager and receptive crowd. July 4th was wet but not forgotten.
